Part 4: Pee emergency

"It's a little after 6am," Mom says, "I suggest you try to go back to sleep."
And that's what I do, just like Lily. Two hours later, around 8am, Lily and I wake up.
"I need to pee," says Lily.
"I also need to go a little," I say.
"We'll stop at the next rest area then," Dad says.
A few minutes pass during which everyone talks about everything and nothing.
"I really need to pee more and more," says Lily, "how much longer?"
"At least 5 more minutes," Dad replies. The rest area is still several kilometers away.
I see Lily squirming more and more and I feel sorry for her. As time passes, she grimaces in pain.
"I won't be able to hold it much longer," she says, starting to cry.
"Don't cry, Lily, we'll stop soon. The rest area is in sight, hold on for 1 more minute," Mom says.
Lily has her hands between her legs, and tears stream down her cheeks.
"Stop as soon as possible, she won't make it to the toilet," Mom says to Dad.
Dad is slowing down, and he stops at the first available parking spot. Mom rushes out of the car to open the back door where Lily is.
Mom unfastens Lily's seat belt and takes her hand to help her out of the car. Thankfully, Lily is wearing a dress, which makes it easier for Mom to help her squat after lowering her underwear.
There, I hear a continuous stream. Lily seems elsewhere, I look at her and I'm happy for her. I know how difficult it can be to hold on to pee and how painful it can be.
Lily smiles at me when she sees me watching her. She feels better and her tears have stopped.
"Phew, I feel better," she says as she stands up.
"I bet," Mom replies. "With all the urine that came out, we could have filled a large bottle! I also need to go to the bathroom, come on Tom, let's go. Lily, what do you want to do? Do you stay here or come with us?"
"I'll stay here, I'll warm up in the car, I'm a bit cold."
I also get out of the car and hold Mom's hand. I'm not cold, unlike Lily, but I am wearing sweatpants. It's what I always wear for trips, it's more comfortable than jeans. I also need to pee, but it's okay, I can hold it.
